Born and raised in Lafayette, Indiana, Dr. Steven C. Mather has practiced eye care
in the Greater Lafayette area since 1981. He knows this community well and is committed to serving patients with the highest quality eye care.
Dr. Mather completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry at Indiana University in 1977 and obtained his Doctor of Optometry from Indiana University in 1981. In August of that same year, Dr. Mather began his solo practice of optometry in Greater Lafayette. When Dr. Robert Mather retired in 1993, Dr. Steven Mather integrated the two practices.
He has cared for veterans at the Indiana Veterans Home for approximately 20 years. Dr. Mather was the first optometrist in the area to fit corneal refractive contact lenses, to offer diagnostic laser scans of the retina, and "Quantifeye" macular pigment analysis for macular degeneration.
While a member of The Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Mather initiated the Community Academic Recognition Award. He is a past board member of the Lyn Treece Boys and Girls Club. In 2007, he was a co-chair of the Lafayette Heart Gala. Dr. Mather is still serves as secretary/treasurer of the Tippecanoe Cattlemen's Association.
Dr. Mather has three children, and his interests include 4-H, German Shorthair Pointers (dogs), Hereford cattle, quarter horses, and agriculture.
